Meatloaf with Tangy Tomato Glaze

Ingredients

Meatloaf

  • 1 1/2 lb (700 g) ground beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup (80 g) breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) milk
  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) salt, 1/2 tsp (2.5 ml) pepper

Glaze

  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) ketchup
  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) brown sugar
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) mustard

Steps

  1. Mix beef, onion, egg, breadcrumbs, milk, Worcestershire, salt, and pepper. Shape into a loaf.
  2. Stir glaze and spread over loaf. Bake at 350°F (180°C) for 50–60 minutes to 160°F (71°C).

Pairings

  • Wine: Cabernet Franc – earthy, herbal; Zinfandel – bold & fruity
  • Beer: Porter – caramelized notes; Amber Ale – malty depth
