Sweet Potato & Black Bean Burgers

Ingredients

Patties

  • 14 oz (400 g) sweet potato, roasted & mashed
  • 1 can (400 g / 14 oz) black beans, rinsed
  • 1 cup (80 g) breadcrumbs or oats
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) cumin
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) chili powder
  • Salt and pepper

To Serve

  • Buns and fixings

Steps

  1. Mash sweet potato and beans; mix with breadcrumbs and spices; season.
  2. Form patties; pan-sear in a little oil 3–4 minutes per side or bake at 400°F (200°C) for 20 minutes.
  3. Serve on buns with your favorite toppings.

Pairings

  • Wine: Garnacha – fruity & earthy; Zinfandel – bold & juicy
  • Beer: Amber Ale – malt sweetness; Brown Ale – nutty depth
